Implementing a comprehensive Selective Adoption strategy is critical for you to maximize your investment in PeopleSoft. Today's PeopleSoft is different from past releases of PeopleSoft in many ways. One of the most significant ways is the ability for you as a customer to decide the scope and frequency of changes applied to your PeopleSoft solutions, driven by the needs of your business. Those changes can consist of maintenance as well as newly delivered capabilities. You can apply changes as often as you want and need. PeopleSoft Selective Adoption enabled by the PeopleSoft Update Manager is an entirely new mindset.
With this new mindset it is important to rethink how you address your PeopleSoft solutions. With Selective Adoption, the historic model of "standing pat" to minimize the amount of change to PeopleSoft is no longer necessary (or appropriate), even for the most risk adverse customers. Customers are formulating their own, unique Selective Adoption strategy that addresses their specific needs. The PeopleSoft team has encountered many customer who seek guidance on what they should do. While the "right" strategy for each customer can and should be tailored to your unique needs, we recommend your strategy address the following points:
- Determine how maintenance will be consumed - when to selectively apply maintenance and when to "get current".
- Include the adoption and roll out of new features to end users - don't exclusively focus on maintenance - often this is related to, but separate from the consumption of maintenance.
- Establish a schedule - how often will maintenance be applied, new features be adopted.
- Budget and fund ongoing activities accordingly.
- Most importantly, ensure line of business and IT collaboration.
This may seem like a daunting task to you but there is good news.
